In One Accord: 50 Days to Pentecost

Daily Devotional

Day 9 of 50 – Peace Is a Gift, Not a Reward

Scripture (Romans 5:1, NKJV)
“Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Devotional Thought:
Peace is not the result of perfection—it is the fruit of connection. So often, we live as though peace must be earned, as if calmness comes only after we’ve fixed everything, done everything right, or proven ourselves worthy. But Scripture reminds us that peace is already established through Jesus Christ. It is not pending your performance—it is secured by your faith.

When Jesus appeared to His disciples after the resurrection, He didn’t wait for them to overcome their fear, doubt, or confusion. He stepped into their uncertainty and simply said, “Peace be with you.” That same peace is extended to you today. Right in the middle of your unanswered questions, unfinished growth, and imperfect faith—peace is available.

Striving says, “I must achieve to receive.”
Grace says, “Receive because it’s already been achieved.”

You are not working toward peace—you are living from it.

Let today be the day you stop chasing what has already been given. Breathe deeply, release the pressure, and rest in the finished work of Christ. Peace is not distant—it is present. It is yours.

Journal Prompt:
Where have you been striving instead of receiving God’s peace?
What would it look like to fully accept that peace is already yours today?

Prayer:
Father, thank You that peace is not something I have to earn, but something You have freely given through Jesus. Help me to stop striving for what You’ve already established. Quiet my heart, calm my thoughts, and teach me to rest in Your presence. Today, I choose to receive Your peace by faith, not by works. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
