Good morning. Today is Palm Sunday. What an exciting time.
Mom came home yesterday under Hospice Care. Lisa and I are facing some huge challenges so I ask that you keep us in prayer, please give us a lot of grace as we continue to fight the good fight.
We must continue to hold a united front, praying together, believing together, lifting each other up and standing strong when feeling weak.
REMEMBER: This Thursday, we will be holding a Seder Meal with great Jewish food along with a teaching of the types and shadows of Jesus Christ during Passover and Jesus’ last meal.
Thank you church family, I love you all and I’m grateful that you are you. With that, let’s jump into my message for today.
Palm Sunday Sermon:
“Hosanna Before the Breakthrough”
Faith & Provision — Thanksgiving Before the Breakthrough
Primary Text: Matthew 21:1–11 (NKJV)
Focus: Praise, faith, and trust before the outcome
Introduction: Praise Before Provision
Palm Sunday is not just a celebration—it is a prophetic picture of faith before fulfillment.
The people cried “Hosanna,” meaning “Save now!”
But what they didn’t realize was this:
Their praise came before the provision was revealed.
This aligns perfectly with the time we’ve spent in Prayer and Fasting.
Thanksgiving before the breakthrough is the highest expression of faith.
They were praising a King…
But they didn’t yet understand His plan.
READ: Matthew 21:8–9 (NKJV)
“And a very great multitude spread their clothes on the road; others cut down branches from the trees and spread them on the road.
Then the multitudes who went before and those who followed cried out, saying:
‘Hosanna to the Son of David!
Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’
Hosanna in the highest!”
Point 1: God’s Provision Often Arrives in Unexpected Packaging
READ: Matthew 21:2–3 (NKJV)
“Saying to them, ‘Go into the village opposite you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied, and a colt with her. Loose them and bring them to Me.
And if anyone says anything to you, you shall say, ‘The Lord has need of them,’ and immediately he will send them.’”
READ: Zechariah 9:9 (NKJV)
“Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion!
Shout, O daughter of Jerusalem!
Behold, your King is coming to you;
He is just and having salvation,
Lowly and riding on a donkey,
A colt, the foal of a donkey.”
Message:
God had already made provision:
But it didn’t look like power—it looked like humility.
Provision doesn’t always look like what you prayed for.
Declaration:
“I will not reject God’s provision just because it looks different than I expected.”
Point 2: Thanksgiving Must Come Before the Breakthrough
READ: Psalm 100:4 (NKJV)
“Enter into His gates with thanksgiving,
And into His courts with praise.
Be thankful to Him, and bless His name.”
READ: 1 Thessalonians 5:18 (NKJV)
“In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”
READ: Luke 19:37–38 (NKJV)
“Then, as He was now drawing near the descent of the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works they had seen,
saying: ‘Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord!
Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!’”
Message:
They praised Him before:
They were shouting before the breakthrough.
But here’s the tension:
Their praise was real… but their understanding was limited.
Mature faith says:
“I thank You, God—not just for what You’ve done, but for what You are about to do.”
Contrast:
Declaration:
“I will praise God in advance. My thanksgiving is not based on outcome—it’s based on trust.”
Point 3: The Path to Provision Leads Through the Cross
READ: Luke 19:41–42 (NKJV)
“Now as He drew near, He saw the city and wept over it,
saying, ‘If you had known, even you, especially in this your day, the things that make for your peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes.’”
READ: Joshua 1:9 (NKJV)
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
READ: Psalm 118:24 (NKJV)
“This is the day the Lord has made;
We will rejoice and be glad in it.”
Message:
Jesus knew:
Palm Sunday was not the end—it was the entrance into process.
Breakthrough is often preceded by tension.
Encouragement:
Some of you are praising—but also hurting.
Trusting—but also waiting.
You are not off track—you are on the road to provision.
Declaration:
“I will not quit in the middle of God’s process. My breakthrough is on the other side of obedience.”
Closing: Hosanna Is a Faith Statement
“Hosanna” means:
“Lord, save now.”
But here’s the revelation:
They were asking for salvation…
while walking with the Savior.
They just didn’t recognize how He would do it.
Final Challenge:
Will you still say “Hosanna” when:
Final Corporate Declaration
Say it together:
If you’re in a place where:
This is your moment.
Come and recommit your praise before your provision.
Amen and amen
love you all and I will see you Thursday at Dinner & Discipleship
