Week 4 – Unity: Preparing the People Before the Place

Monday, Day 20 – Built Together Before Built Upon

Scripture: 1 Peter 2:5; Ephesians 2:21–22

As we move into Week 4 of this Lenten fast, God gently shifts our focus again. Before He prepares a place, He prepares a people. Scripture reminds us that the Church is not first a building, but a body. “You also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house” (1 Peter 2:5). Long before walls are raised, God is forming hearts, shaping character, and aligning spirits.

Ephesians 2:21–22 tells us that in Christ, the whole building is joined together and grows into a holy temple. Unity is not an accessory to God’s work—it is the foundation. God is more concerned with how we are built together than where we gather. When unity is strong, any space becomes sacred ground. In our desire for a ministry property, it can be easy to focus on square footage, layout, and location. Yet God is inviting us to pause and ask a deeper question: Are we prepared to carry what He wants to entrust to us? Buildings can hold crowds, but only unified people can steward revival, growth, and lasting impact.

Fasting refines us as living stones. It removes rough edges—pride, impatience, self-reliance—and teaches us to depend on one another as we depend on God. Unity is forged in seasons of sacrifice. When we lay down preferences and choose love, we reflect the heart of Christ.

Preparing the people before the place also protects us from misplaced priorities. A building is a tool, not the goal. God desires a dwelling place for His presence more than a destination for our ambitions. When our hearts are aligned, the place will come in God’s perfect timing.

Today, God is shaping us into a house of worship, prayer, and service. Each conversation, act of grace, and moment of humility strengthens the spiritual foundation being laid. The place we are believing for will not define us—the people we are becoming will.

Reflection/Application:

  • Ask God how He is shaping you personally in this season.
  • Reflect on ways you can strengthen unity within the church.
  • Pray 1 Peter 2:5 over your church family.

Prayer:

Lord, build us together before You build upon us. Shape our hearts, align our spirits, and strengthen our unity. Prepare us to steward whatever You place in our hands with humility and faithfulness. May we be a dwelling place for Your presence in every season. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
