Week 4 – Unity: Preparing the People Before the Place

Saturday, Day 25 – Maintaining Unity Beyond the Fast

Scripture: Colossians 3:14; Ephesians 4:3

As we conclude this week of fasting and prayer focused on unity, God reminds us that unity is not seasonal—it is a continual pursuit. Colossians 3:14 instructs, “And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.” Love is the thread that weaves unity into every relationship, decision, and ministry endeavor.

Maintaining unity beyond the fast requires intentionality. Ephesians 4:3 encourages us to “make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.” This is not passive; it demands prayer, humility, and the willingness to forgive. Even after the fast ends, the lessons learned—patience, listening, serving, and praying together—must continue to guide our interactions.

Unity protects vision. When hearts remain aligned, decisions regarding the ministry property and future plans are made with clarity and shared purpose. Disagreements may arise, but a foundation of love and peace keeps conflicts from derailing God’s plan. Unity also strengthens faith, as collective trust in God amplifies courage and confidence among the congregation.

Fasting has revealed attitudes and patterns that hinder unity. It has shown where pride, impatience, or selfishness may exist. Maintaining unity beyond the fast means actively replacing those tendencies with grace, humility, and Christlike love. It is a lifestyle of surrender, not a temporary discipline.

As a church, sustaining unity also encourages participation and growth. When members see leaders and fellow congregants practicing love, patience, and cooperation, it builds confidence in God’s direction. A unified body attracts God’s blessing and equips the church to steward the ministry property well when the time comes.

Today, recommit to being a builder of unity. Look for opportunities to support, encourage, and reconcile. Let love be the lens through which all interactions are filtered.

Reflection/Application:

  • Identify one area where you can actively promote unity in the church this week.

  • Pray for humility, patience, and grace to maintain peace beyond the fast.

  • Speak Colossians 3:14 aloud as a daily declaration of unity.

Prayer:
Lord, help us maintain the unity You have cultivated during this fast. Teach us to love one another deeply, forgive freely, and walk in humility. Let the bonds of peace guide our decisions, relationships, and ministry. May our unity honor You as we prepare for all You have planned. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
