Week 4 – Unity: Preparing the People Before the Place

Thursday, Day 23 – Serving Together Strengthens Unity

Scripture: Galatians 5:13; John 13:14–15

Unity grows strongest when God’s people serve side by side. Jesus modeled this truth clearly when He knelt to wash the disciples’ feet. In John 13:15, He said, “I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you.” Service breaks down barriers, softens hearts, and aligns us with Christ’s posture of humility.

Galatians 5:13 reminds us that we are called to freedom, not for self-indulgence, but to “serve one another humbly in love.” As we fast and pray for a ministry property, God is shaping a culture where service comes before status and love comes before preference. A building will one day provide opportunities for ministry, but the spirit of service must be cultivated now.

Serving together shifts our focus outward. When we labor side by side—whether in prayer, outreach, setup, teaching, or acts of compassion—we are reminded that we are on the same mission. Differences fade as shared purpose takes center stage. Unity is often strengthened not in meetings, but in moments of faithful service.

Fasting reinforces this posture by reminding us that we are not sustained by comfort, recognition, or convenience, but by obedience to God. Each act of service becomes an offering—an expression of gratitude and trust. When we serve without expectation, God multiplies impact and deepens connection.

Serving together also prepares us for growth. As God expands our ministry, opportunities to serve will increase. A unified, servant-hearted church is equipped to welcome new people, steward new space, and meet greater needs. God entrusts more to those who demonstrate faithfulness with what they have now.

Today, let us ask God to show us where we can serve—both individually and collectively. Small acts done with great love build strong foundations. As we serve together, we reflect the heart of Christ and create space for God’s blessing to flow.

Reflection/Application:

  • Ask God where He is calling you to serve in this season.

  • Look for an opportunity to serve alongside someone else today.

  • Reflect on how service strengthens unity within the church.

Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank You for modeling humility and service. Teach us to serve one another in love and unity. Help us lay aside pride and embrace the joy of serving together. As we prepare for the place You have for us, prepare our hearts to serve faithfully and joyfully. In Your name, Amen.
