In One Accord: 50 Days to Pentecost
Daily Devotional
Day 8 of 50 – Peace in the Closed Room
Scripture (John 20:19, NKJV)
“Then, the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut… Jesus came and stood in the midst, and said to them, ‘Peace be with you.’”
Devotional Thought
The disciples weren’t gathered in faith—they were gathered in fear. The doors were shut tight, not just physically, but emotionally and spiritually. They had seen the cross. They felt the loss. They didn’t yet understand the victory.
And still—Jesus came.
He didn’t knock. He didn’t wait for permission. He stepped right into the middle of their fear and spoke what they needed most: peace.
This is the beauty of His presence. Jesus is not limited by what you’ve closed off. He is not restricted by your doubt, your anxiety, or your uncertainty about what comes next. The very places you try to hide in are the places He chooses to reveal Himself.
His peace is not fragile. It doesn’t depend on circumstances improving. It doesn’t wait for clarity or control. His peace enters chaos and brings stillness. It steps into confusion and brings assurance. It fills fearful spaces with divine confidence.
Whatever “room” you’ve closed—whether it’s fear of the future, anxiety about provision, or uncertainty in your calling—Jesus is not outside of it. He is willing to meet you right there.
And when He shows up, He doesn’t bring condemnation. He brings peace.
Journal Prompt
What “closed rooms” (fear, anxiety, uncertainty, past hurt, control) exist in your life right now?
What would it look like to invite Jesus into those spaces instead of trying to manage them on your own?
Prayer
Lord, step into every closed place in my life.
Where I have shut the door in fear, enter with Your peace.
Where anxiety has taken hold, speak calm over my mind and heart.
Remind me that You are not limited by what I feel or see.
Let Your presence override every worry and every doubt.
I open every hidden place to You—fill it with Your peace.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
